JEUNE CINÉMA
Directed by Yves-Marie Mahé, 2023

SYNOPSIS
A documentary film featuring rare archival footage about the famous yet forgotten Hyères Film Festival, which ran from 1965 to 1983. At the time, it was the most important festival in France after the glamorous Cannes Film Festival — a welcoming space where young directors such as Philippe Garrel, Chantal Akerman, Helma Sanders, Werner Schroeter, Leos Carax, and many others were discovered, long before they became legends among art-house film enthusiasts. Hyères was a vibrant stage for passionate debates, fiery polemics, and, above all, unexpected encounters. In short, it was the place to be for cinephiles.
