LUCIA SANCHEZ
Lucia Sanchez is a Spanish actress and director working in Paris. After studying law and drama in Spain, she was admitted to the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris. In France, she regularly works as an actress in both theater and cinema. Alongside her acting career, she has directed three short films, including "Siestes," selected in over fifteen festivals and awarded multiple times.
Passionate about documentary cinema, she studied at the EICTV in Havana. Since then, she has been creating documentary films, exploring the forms and possibilities of the genre. Her films, infused with poetry, often blur the boundaries with fiction, offering a distant perspective on societal issues, connected by a taste for the absurd and comedy.
She has directed over twenty documentaries for television, including "Las Amigas," which depicts the Parisian life of four retired Spanish immigrants, awarded the Best Directing Prize at the Dakino Film Festival. Other works include "Profanations," a revisited memoir of a Catholic education, awarded the Audience Prize at the Créteil Women's Film Festival, "Pick up," a silent film set in Benidorm, co-produced by La Lucarne de Arte, and "La guerre du golfe," about real estate speculation in southern Spain, selected at the Valladolid Seminci and broadcast on France TV and RTVE. Recently, she has turned her focus towards French society, directing films such as "C’est l’heure du bilan," "Tapis rouge," "Le monde dans un grenier," "Petits chefs," as well as web documentaries "Moderncouple" and "Les yeux de la tête" for Arte. She has been the winner of the Infracourts competition by France TV, received the Varenne Prize at FIGRA, and the Brouillon d’un rêve grant from Scam on multiple occasions.
Lucia Sanchez has also collaborated with the Cut-up magazine on Arte, created audio documentaries for the "Les pieds sur terre" program on France Culture, and participated in Canal+'s La Collection. Lucia Sanchez has taught documentary filmmaking at the University of Paris X (Nanterre) and La Femis. Her latest film, "Mafalda, reviens !," blending archives, animated images, and real footage, was selected by the Month of Documentary Film in the Aquitaine region and was part of the official competition at the Fidba in Buenos Aires.
